The Rangers enjoyed a five-game win streak after the All-Star break, but their form quickly tailed off as they were swept in Toronto, losing 6-5, 7-3 and 7-3.

They avoided a fourth straight loss by winning 6-3 in St Louis, but they failed to back that up as they lost the next two meetings with the Cardinals, 8-1 and 10-1.

Texas then returned home for a three-game series with Boston, sandwiching a 7-4 win over the Red Sox with 11-6 and 7-2 defeats.

The Rangers then hosted state rivals Houston, and failed to back up a 4-3 victory as they lost the next two games, 4-2 and 6-4.

New York Yankees Form

New York come into this series on the back of two defeats but in solid form, having won eight of their previous 11 games.

The Yankees started this run in response to a run of five defeats in six games, with the first five wins coming on the road.

They responded to a 9-7 defeat in Boston with 11-8 and 8-2 victories over the Red Sox, before moving on to Philadelphia where the swept the Phillies with 14-4, 7-6 and 6-5 wins.

New York then dropped the series opener at home to Toronto, 8-5, only to win the next two meetings, 8-3 and 4-3.

The Yankees remained at home for their next series too, and after winning the series opener 5-2 they dropped the next couple of games, 8-2 and 9-4.
