The Eagles responded to a 71-49 defeat to Bucknell in early February with a run of three straight victories, beating Lehigh 78-75, Lafayette 60-58 and Loyola MD 72-51.

They then bounced back from a 76-69 loss to Army with a 48-44 victory over Boston University, before rebounding from a 68-60 loss to Navy with a 67-59 win against Colgate.

That sent American into the Patriot Conference tournament in good form, and they booked their place in the final by beating Lafayette 71-69 and Colgate 72-52.

The Eagles completed the job in the final, as they made straightforward work of Navy in a 74-52 victory.

Mount St Mary’s Form

Mount St Mary’s go into the national tournament on a great run of form, having won nine of their previous 11 games.

The Mountaineers began this good run on Valentine’s Day as they won 84-83 at Niagara, and they backed it up by beating Canisius 73-66, Saint Peter’s 69-58 and Rider 79-72.

They then bounced back from a 69-62 defeat at Fairfield with an 85-79 success against Siena, before responding to a 79-70 loss to Quinnipiac with a 62-52 victory over Marist.

Mount St Mary’s followed up that victory to battle their way to the final of the MAAC tournament, beating Marist 62-58 and Merrimack 57-55.

The Mountaineers then clinched the conference crown with a 63-49 win over Iona in the final.
