San Diego State enter the national tournament having endured a swift exit from the conference knockout competition.

The Aztecs went into the Mountain West tournament on a decent run of form as they won six of their final eight regular season games.

They started this sequence with a 69-66 win at San Jose State, before returning home to down Boise State 64-47 and Fresno State 83-60.

San Diego’s run was then ended by a 79-71 loss to Utah State, but they responded by beating New Mexico 73-65 and Wyoming 72-69, and then bounced back from a 74-67 loss to Nevada-Las Vegas with an 80-61 win over Nevada.

However, the Aztecs failed to make it back-to-back wins in their MWC opener, losing 62-52 to Boise State.

North Carolina Form

North Carolina go into March Madness looking to bounce back from a defeat in the semi-finals of the ACC tournament.

The Tar Heels went into the conference tournament on the back of a loss, but having won six of their final seven regular season games.

They rebounded from an 85-65 loss to Clemson with an 88-82 win at Syracuse, and then beat NC State 97-73, Virginia 81-66, Florida State 96-85, Miami FL 92-73 and Virginia Tech 91-59.

North Carolina’s run was ended by an 82-69 loss to Duke, but they bounced back in the ACC tournament as they downed Notre Dame 76-56 and Wake Forest 68-59.

However, another Tar Heels winning run was brought to an end by Duke, as they lost the semi-final matchup 74-71.

Verdict

San Diego State v North Carolina

North Carolina have underwhelmed this season, but they still boast a potent offense.

Therefore we are backing the Tar Heels to put up enough points to see off a San Diego State team that has issues on offense.
