Xavier are tipped to cover as they book a place in the first round of March Madness.

Texas have struggled with fouling and turnovers, and this Musketeers team is built to take advantage of that, having done a great job getting to the Free Throw line this season.

Texas enter the national tournament having fallen just short in the SEC tournament and having lost eight of their last 12 games.

The Longhorns struggled badly through the final few weeks of the regular season as they lost seven times in a nine-game spell.

That sequence included a couple of three-game losing skids, but they had done enough to make the conference tournament and they did enjoy some early success.

Texas opened the SEC tournament with a 79-72 victory over Vanderbilt, and then booked their place in the quarter-finals with a 94-89 win against Texas A&M.

The Longhorns fell at the last eight though, as they were beaten 83-72 by a Tennessee team that went on to lose in the final.

Xavier Form

Xavier go into this game looking to rebound from a disappointing showing in the Big East tournament.

The Musketeers ended the regular season on a fantastic run of form, winning each of their final seven games.

They beat Providence 91-82 on the road, before returning home to down DePaul 85-68 and Butler 76-63.

Xavier then won 73-66 at Seton Hall, 83-61 at home to Creighton, 91-78 at Butler and 76-68 at home to Providence.

However, the Musketeers’ run was brought to a shuddering halt when they kicked off their Big East tournament campaign, as they were beaten 89-87 by Marquette.

Verdict

Xavier @ Texas

Xavier lost last time out, but this is still a team that has been in good form since the start of February.

They are capable of taking full advantage of Texas’ biggest flaws, so we expect the Mountaineers to put their quick Big East exit behind them.
