Australia vs South Africa Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

David Warner is back to his best for Australia and now has the chance to claim revenge on the South Africa side that sparked his downfall last year. The Australia batsman is backed for a fifth half century in seven matches in Saturday’s Cricket World Cup clash at Old Trafford.

Australia Form & Team News

Australia and India have been the frontrunners throughout the 2019 Cricket World Cup. David Warner has led the charge for Justin Langer’s team, seemingly determined to do his talking on the pitch after a long spell out of action.

Warner’s demise last year started with an altercation with South Africa’s Quinton de Kock and ended with a ball-tampering scandal in the same tour. Controversy serves only to fuel the fire in Warner’s belly and he has looked as strong as ever throughout the World Cup.

The bad memories that will be invoked by a rematch with South Africa for Warner should only spur him on to new heights. Just as well that the Proteas have struggled for form throughout the World Cup.

Warner meanwhile has scored four fifties in his last six matches including two centuries. I believe there is huge value in tipping him to score another half century at 2.10.

Australia can be backed to win at 1.50 given as they have already picked up seven victories in eight matches.

South Africa Form & Team News

South Africa have once again fallen to spectacular lows at precisely the wrong time. The Proteas have given the public no choice but to question their mentality.

Captain Faf du Plessis has come under fire but he has in fact been one of the more reliable performers in the squad. He responded in the best possible way to critics with 96* in South Africa’s win over Sri Lanka, his second successive fifty.

South Africa’s second win in the tournament came too late to save an otherwise disastrous Cricket World Cup campaign. Ottis Gibson’s Proteas nevertheless do have momentum behind them now and can be backed to win at 2.80.

Australia vs South Africa Head to Head

The Proteas lead 6-4 in the ODI series win count against Australia with two draws since South Africa’s readmission to the global sporting scene at the end of apartheid.

South Africa won the most recent series between these two teams 2-1 in late 2018 with Faf du Plessis starring. This was before David Warner’s re-integration into the Australia team.

Australia vs South Africa Match Up

David Warner leads the 2019 Cricket World Cup runscorers’ table at the time of writing with 516 at an average of 73.71. Little surprise that he is the favorite to finish as Australia's top batsman against South Africa at 3.80.

Faf du Plessis is one to watch for South Africa having picked up 63 and 96* in his last two innings. He averaged 91 in South Africa’s three-match away ODI series against Australia late last year.
