England and Afghanistan meet at the 2019 Cricket World Cup at Old Trafford as the round robin stage reaches its halfway point. England have been playing well at their home World Cup and it is highly unlikely that Afghanistan will change that.

England have had one slip up against Pakistan but in general look very good. Both the batting and bowling departments have fired and in their last game against the West Indies they were comfortable winners.

Mark Wood and Jofra Archer picked up three wickets each as England dismissed the Windies for 211. In response Joe Root scored 100 not out after being promoted to open the batting following an injury to Jason Roy.

England are the odds on favourites at 1.06 but there is more value elsewhere. Root has scored two centuries in his last three innings which makes him an appetising bet to be England’s best batsman once again at 4.00.

England captain Eoin Morgan and Jason Roy both pulled up with injures in their previous match against the West Indies. It has yet to be confirmed whether they will miss this clash but the selectors might give both of them the day off considering there are bigger games ahead.

Afghanistan Form & Team News

Afghanistan promised much coming into the World Cup but they have been disappointing to say the least. In their last outing against South Africa they were once again comprehensively beaten.

Batting first Afghanistan were dismissed for 127 and had to rely on number nine batsman Rashid Khan to take them there with a well played 35. The bowling side went well but with very little runs on the board South Africa had to take no risks and chased the score down with ease.

Afghanistan can be backed at 10.00 to claim a very unlikely victory but have to overcome poor form and general lack of quality.
