England were expected to beat Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia but came up short in each one. Their last match against Australia and the ‘Home of Cricket’ Lord’s was disappointing to say the least.

On a pitch that offered the quick bowlers plenty of assistance England failed to get any early wickets which allowed the Aussies to go on and score 285 runs. In reply only Ben Stokes innings of 89 kept them in the hunt but his dismissal mean they went down by 64 runs.

In relieving news for England in-form opening batsman Jason Roy may be fit to start ahead of James Vince and continue his successful opening partnership with Jonny Bairstow.

England will be desperate for victory over India and despite the odds being stacked against them at 2.00, I am backing them to pull through in front of their home crowd.

Joe Root has scored 113 and 100 in his last two innings against India and had been England’s most consistent batsman at the World Cup, he is tipped to score 50+ runs at 2.10.

India Form & Team News

India are the only unbeaten team at the World Cup at the moment but all has not been plain sailing. Virat Kohli has been brilliant with bat in hand with four scores over 50 runs in his last four innings, I am backing him to score over 45.5 runs against England at 1.90.

Other than Kohli the batting has struggled. India have suffered numerous middle order collapses and have struggled to impose big totals on the opposition recently. Their bowling has bailed them thus far but if they are to win the World Cup the batting department will have to improve.

India come up against a desperate England and are odds on favourite at 1.80 to claim victory. With their playoff hopes largely hinging on this encounter I expect the hosts to come out firing and India's batting struggles to finally catch up with them.
