South Africa vs New Zealand Cricket World Cup Preview, Predictions, Betting Tips & Live Stream

South Africa face off against New Zealand at Edgbaston in what is a must-win 2019 Cricket World Cup encounter for the Proteas. I expect Quinton de Kock to lead the way for South Africa as they revive their World Cup campaign.

De Kock has scored 50+ in seven of his last 11 innings so I am tipping him to do so again while a score of over 39.5 for the opener is paying 1.90.

There is value in backing South Africa’s desperation to come through and beat the odds by defeating New Zealand at 2.20.

South Africa Form & Team News

Two of South Africa’s defeats at the World Cup came against India and England, results that were not all that surprising. The defeat to Bangladesh and the rained out fixture against the West Indies is what has hurt them.

The stakes are high for Proteas as they now have to win all their remaining games. In their last match South Africa were comprehensive winners against Afghanistan at Sophia Gardes.

Afghanistan batted first and were dismissed for 127 with Imran Tahir the pick of South Africa’s bowlers taking 4-29. He can be backed at 4.00 to be South Africa’s best bowler.

Considering it is pretty much a knockout game for South Africa I am tipping their desperation to come through and win at 2.20.

South African opener Quinton de Kock deserves to be backed to score over 39.5 at 1.90. De Kock has scored over 39.5 in seven of his last 11 ODI matches and has converted all of them into fifties.

New Zealand Form & Team News

New Zealand have won three of their opening four matches with their last match against India rained out. Prior to the India match New Zealand beat Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan – three of the weakest teams at the World Cup.

New Zealand have relied heavily on their bowlers, in particular Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson who have ensured they dominate oppositions sides. On the batting front Kane Williamson remains crucial in a struggling line-up.

New Zealand go into this fixture at 1.66 as favourites but that is largely based on their tournament form against teams they were expected to beat.

South Africa vs New Zealand Head to Head

Over the last nine ODI’s between the two sides South Africa have a slight advantage with five wins compared to New Zealand’s four.

South Africa vs New Zealand Match Up

Both South Africa and New Zealand are strong bowling sides with struggling batting line-ups. The team whose batsmen can handle the pressure is likely to claim victory in this one.

Verdict

I am tipping South Africa to win against New Zealand at 2.20 as their quest to qualify for the semi finals continues.

Proteas form batsman Quinton de Kock has scored over 39.5 runs seven times in his last 11 innings so I am backing him to do so again at 1.90.
