Chris Dobey vs Rob Cross Preview

Former winner, Rob Cross returns to the Quarter Final stage of the PDC World Darts Championship on Monday, when he takes on Chris Dobey for a place in the Semi-Finals.

Head To Head

Chris Dobey and Rob Cross have played each other 13 times in the PDC, with Dobey edging the head-to-head record 7-6. The last match between the two took place at Players Championship Event 26 in October, with Dobey claiming a 6-4 win.

Chris Dobey Form

Chris Dobey has been playing some fantastic darts during this tournament. "Hollywood" recorded an average of 103 during his opening win over William O'Connor, beat Ross Smith 4-2 with an average of 102, a figure he repeated in his 4-0 victory over defending champion, Michael Smith in Round 4.

Dobey came of age on the Ally Pally stage 12 months ago, reaching the quarter-finals for the first time. The 33-year-old has cut a calm, composed figure on the big stage all tournament and Monday's quarter-final promises to be a fantastic spectacle.

Rob Cross Form

For the first time since lifting the Sid Waddell trophy in 2018, Rob Cross has reached the quarter-final stage. Following easy victories over Thibault Tricole and Jeffrey De Graaf, "Voltage" flexed his muscles during his Round 4 showdown with Jonny Clayton, winning 4-0, having averaged 105 during the middle two sets of the match.

Like Dobey, Cross brought some solid form into this year's World Championships and has looked totally at ease with his game throughout the tournament. The world number eight seems desperate to prove his victory in 2018 wasn't a one-off.

Verdict

I'm expecting a tight tussle between two in-form players on Monday. The head-to-head record says the two players are evenly matched, but in recent years, Chris Dobey has held the bragging rights over Rob Cross, winning four of their last five encounters, including a 4-2 win over his rival at the Ally Pally 12 months ago.

Of the two, Dobey has played the better darts during the tournament and that 4-0 whitewash over Michael Smith will have boosted his confidence through the roof. I'll be backing Dobey to win, and the match going over 7/5 Total Sets.
