Japan Form

Japan won all six games in the second round of the World Cup qualifiers, scoring 24 goals with none conceded. They kept it going in the third round, thrashing China 7-0, Bahrain 5-0 and Saudi Arabia 2-0.

Samurai Blue drew 1-1 against Australia despite enjoying 65% possession and 12-1 shots. They bounced back with a 4-0 win in Indonesia, going ahead through an own goal before Takumi Minamino, Hidemasa Morita and Yukinari Sugawara found the net.

Hajime Moriyasu’s side ended the year with a 3-1 win in China. They looked to be cruising after Koki Ogawa and Ko Itakura scored before half-time, Ogawa restoring the two goal advantage with his sixth goal in the competition.
