Australia vs Argentina Predictions
Both sides come into this clash after heavy defeats to South Africa and New Zealand. The Aussies are favourites on home soil, but given their performance last week, I fancy Los Pumas to get within the nine-point handicap.

- Australia have covered the -9 handicap in 3 of their last 4 matches against Argentina.
- Australia lost 43-12 to South Africa last week.
- Argentina beat Australia 48-17 when the last met in 2022.
- Argentina lost 41-12 to New Zealand last week.
Head to Head
Australia have won three of their last six matches against Argentina. Los Pumas won their last match against the Aussies 48-17 while there were also two draws in 2020.
Australia Form
Australia sacked Dave Rennie as coach at the end of last year to appoint Eddie Jones after the latter was sacked by England.
With no incoming June Tests this year due to the World Cup, Jones had minimal time with his players ahead of the World Cup later this year. That means that this Rugby Championship is crucial for Jones to get to know his players.
It did not start very well last week as the Wallabies were humiliated 43-12 by South Africa. Very little good came out of that game for Australia and Jones, but this week they will need to put it right on home soil.
Australia Injuries & Team News
Eddie Jones has rung the changes after last weeks performance. He will be hoping to get far more from this side.
Wallabies (15-1): Tom Wright; Mark Nawaqanitawase, Len Ikitau, Samu Kerevi; Marika Koroibete, Quade Cooper, Nic White; Rob Valetini, Fraser McReight, Jed Holloway; Will Skelton, Richie Arnold; Allan Alaalatoa, David Porecki, James Slipper (c)
Replacements: Jordan Uelese, Angus Bell, Pone Fa'amausili, Matt Philip, Rob Leota, Josh Kemeny, Tate McDermott, Carter Gordon
Argentina Form
Argentina have steadily improved in the last decade and are largely considered among the top test-playing nations now.
In recent years Los Pumas have beaten Australia, New Zealand and South Africa so they are no longer the easy game they once were. However, last week, on home soil, the Argentines lost 41-12 to a rampant All Blacks outfit.
Los Pumas will take heart from the fact that they often start the Rugby Championship poorly. But now they are faced with two away games, however, they did beat Australia convincingly on home soil last season.
Argentina Injuries & Team News
Argentina (15-1): Emiliano Boffelli; Rodrigo Isgro, Lucio Cinti, Jeronimo De La Fuente; Mateo Carreras, Santiago Carreras, Gonzalo Bertranou; Juan Martin Gonzalez, Santiago Grondona, Pablo Matera; Tomas Lavanini, Matias Alemanno; Francisco Gomez Kodela, Julian Montoya (capt), Thomas Gallo
Replacements: Agustin Creevy, Hahuel Tetaz Chaparro, Eduardo Bello, Lucas Paulos, Rodrigo Bruni, Lautaro Bazan Velez, Nicolas Sanchez, Matias Moroni
Verdict
After both teams suffered heavy defeats they will both want to show improvement. I'm backing Argentina to get within nine points and possibly win.
