Dominik Koepfer faces off against Daniil Medvedev in the ATP 2019 US Open fourth round in New York. Koepfer has been impressive after coming through grueling qualifying rounds but I think the amount of time he has spent on court will start catching up with him.

Daniil Medvedev is massive outright favourite and his form should see him claim a comfortable victory against the 25-year-old German.

Dominik Koepfer came through qualifying at the 2019 US Open to reach the fourth round which is an incredible feat, but I think his run will come to an end against the in-form Daniil Medvedev. Koepfer has claimed a couple of big scalps in his run including Reilly Opelka 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 in the second round.

His last match was even more impressive against world No. 17 Nikoloz Basilashvili. He overcame the Georgian 6-3, 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 in the third round. Unfortunately Koepfer’s feat of coming through qualifying to reach this stage means he already has five matches and 19 sets under the belt.

That is a lot of time on court for the German and it is bound to catch up with him at some point. Perhaps a night session match would have suited him better with cooler conditions but this one will go down in the heat of New York.

Dominik Koepfer can be backed to cause a huge upset at 5.50 but while upsets of this magnitude are not unheard of, the form of Medvedev is hard to ignore. Unlike Nikoloz Basilashvili who has been in pretty average form.

Daniil Medvedev is in incredible form and is enjoying his best year of professional tennis. At this point he is the biggest threat to the ‘big three’ at the 2019 US Open. In his last match he defeated Feliciano Lopez 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. Medvedev was dominant throughout although he transpired to somehow drop a second which will disappoint him.

Having reached the final of the last three hard court tournaments heading into the US Open Daniil Medvedev is high on confidence. He has won 17 of his last 19 matches on hard court so it is difficult to see an upset in this match. The odds tell us as much with Medvedev the favourite at 1.14.

14 of Medevev’s last 17 victories has been achieved in straight sets and despite dropping a set in his last two US Open matches, I can’t see this one going beyond three sets. I am tipping Medvedev to win 3-0 at 1.83 against an opponent who has spent a lot more time on court.
